Joy was a great prayer partner in recent years. I loved her thoughtfulness for so many people, her delight in sharing answers to prayer and her longing for God's will to be done. She was a valued contributor in an interchurch group reading 'We Need To Talk About Race' right up until her diagnosis. From Joy I learnt that conkers deter spiders, happy hunting in the lovely wood behind their garden. I'm still not convinced!

Joy, thank you and David for taking the time to meet up with us when we were in the UK in December 2018. Even though it is wet and raining, you and David still came to our hotel to meet us, even remember to bring 2 umbrellas for us, knowing that it is the wet winter season. Thank you so much for your generosity and hospitality. Thank you for being Shirley's companion and classmate in the growing year before you and your family returned to UK. You are always be in our memory.

I love sharing with close friends and family the story Joy told me about what a Le Creuset casserole dish represented in her life - how David and Joy expressed their intentions of marriage. Such a heartwarming way to express their love for each other.

Auntie Joy was my constant, in my loud family she was my calm and peaceful comforter. Joy showed me tender love, continual care, prayer and thoughtfulness and I feel so grateful to have been loved by her. I will miss her dearly and love her always, and I know I can honour and remember her by caring for others as she did.

I met Joy in the last 2 weeks of her life, such a lovely lovely lady.

I met Joy at a big Sims family gathering a few years ago (my first as Tom's partner, meeting lots of relatives for the first time!). Tom very quickly disappeared to catch up with various cousins and aunts and uncles. Joy could tell I was a bit overwhelmed and took me under her wing. We bonded over a mutual love of cats and men from a slightly (wonderfully) bonkers family. Living not far from David and Joy we were fortunate to enjoy some lovely memories with them both including some excellent curry nights, witnessing the acquisition of the much beloved Simba and the time they came to rescue us from halfway along the coast to coast (complete with pizza and cake for Tom's birthday!). I am so glad to have known this kind, generous, wonderful lady. We will both miss her greatly.

I first met Joy in Nepal. Her compassion and courage quickly became obvious, as did her experience and ease in living cross-culturally. As our friendship deepened, Joy introduced me to contemplative prayer, honeybush tea, quinoa and Benedictine spirituality. I grew to admire her fortitude in building a faithful and loving life within the energy she had. It would have been easy for Joy to become isolated or inwardly-focussed. Instead, she spent previous stores of energy on friendships and hospitality, sharing in many people's lives through compassion, love and prayer.

my dearest Joy, In my journal today it was asked to reflect, pause and count your blessings and be thankful to those who has blessed my life. Joy you have blessed my life in so so many ways, I am so thankful for the your walk in life that modelled humility, compassion, love, peace, fairness regardless of the multitude of indifferences we see in our society, Jesus in a simple but effective way. Joy, your legacy for me is to be that role model that I saw in you. Love you always
